CE vs UL: Empowering You With The EXPERTISE

Wherever you live, there are different rules and regulations. If you live in the US, be an American. Follow its rules. The same standards apply to a person living in EUROPE.

If you are a SELLER, look. Your product standards won’t work in EUROPE if you have US standards.

That is where our experts have written this guide about CE vs. UL.

Our LEELINE SOURCING EXPERTS know how to get both certificates. You grab the CERTIFICATES for your products. And make your SALES relatively HIGH.

Want to get into detail?

I will shower the light on the product certification. Let’s start.

ce vs ul

Brief introduction of CE and UL certificate

Brief introduction of CE and UL certificate

CE MARK:

Have you seen the CE mark on an ITEM?

It is the STANDARD to put efforts into the products’ safety. The CE process refers to Conformite Europeenne, a French phrase. It defines multiple standards to determine the security of the CE marked products sold.

The product may range from a Household items to industrial products.

UL mark:

Many times you see a UL mark on an electronic product. Guess what it refers to?

UL marking has a HISTORY back to 1894. In 1894, the Underwriters’ Electrical Bureau came into existence. Now, we call it the Underwriters’ laboratories.

It certifies many products. But it is not a LEGAL STANDARD. Instead, it is an ORGANIZATION for safety standards. Its supporters are manufacturers and insurers.

Where do we use the CE mark and UL certificate?

CE mark

CE standards and UL standards are not the SAME.

But their goal is the same. Both of them verify the product’s safety.

Let’s know where we can use the CE mark and UL applicable standards.

The region where CE Marking is applicable.

CE marks are not applicable in the US. You might already know. If you do not, keep it in your MIND.

So, where can you use this STANDARD?

In European countries, you can use the CE mark. And it is a LEGAL STANDARD essential to sell the products in all European countries.

A European market requires it.

Without following European law, you can’t sell in the European Market.

Areas where UL marking is applicable.

The first thing I would like to inform you is:

“UL is not a LEGAL STANDARD. “

Still, it is an applicable standard. If you want to sell electrical products in the US market, the UL listed helps.

What are the differences between UL and CE?

What are the differences between UL and CE

UL certification is DIFFERENT from the CE certification. The only similarity is the safety requirements with which the product complies.

Now the question is about the difference between UL listed and CE. Let’s talk about product safety standards.

European or US standard?

Which one is the National Standard?

National standards refer to the association with the STATE.

Let’s take a look to know which one is the NATIONAL standard.

UL certification is not as much POPULAR as CE mark certification. Underwriters’ laboratories are not REGULATED by the local authority or notified body. Therefore, it is NOT an essential standard to sell in the US market.

Compared to it, the official European standards have DEFINED the CE marking for the European market. Therefore, national authority controls it for European Union countries

The range of products

I often categorize items into different categories. For example, electronic products.

Let me explain where you can use it.

In Electronic products, you can use the UL mark. It is not a STANDARD for all types of products.

If you have other household appliances or products, CE compliance works.

Difference between UL certificate, UL Recognized, and UL Listed

UL certificate, UL Recognized, and UL Listed

I have often seen different terms written on a UL logo. For example, R or C around the UL.

I often wonder what that means. Do you want to know?

Let me explain the different terminologies.

  • UL certificate

UL certificates are the DOCUMENTS to show compliance.

It shows whether the product conforms to the environmental requirements.

So, who can issue a UL certificate? No other than the underwater laboratories. If some laboratories are associated with it, they can also give.

But before you get it, you should go for a THIRD PARTY testing service. Ensure your products match the required conditions. And get a compliance certificate.

My opinion!

A UL certification is different from the UL mark. So, keep it in mind.

  • UL recognized

UL recognized is somewhat different from the product certification. A certificate is a Document that contains UL-recognized or listed product info.

Let me talk more about the UL recognized.

Suppose I purchased a computer device. Do you think of it as a whole, a single device?

Yes, it is a SINGLE DEVICE. But a computer has different components. For example, monitor, CPU, and Keyboard. Similarly, a CPU has hardware devices and many other data storage devices.

These are its components. If there is a symbol of UL recognized, that means product components are verified.

  • UL listed

Never confuse it with the UL recognized. UL listing mark is a BROAD term, while UL recognized a specific phrase. And a UL certificate is the data to show UL listings and UL recognition.

Now, the question is again about the UL LISTED. What is it? How does it help?

UL listed refers to the whole product as a SINGLE piece. UL CERTIFIED means the product follows the UL laws.

Consider the example I mentioned above. If I find the UL LISTED symbol, my computer follows UL STANDARDS. So

It is not about the parts, just the computer.
