READY?

Let’s know.

Chemical Test

What is Chemical Testing?

What is Chemical Testing

Chemical testing DEFINES itself.

Chemical and TEST. These two words are MAGIC.

The testing process detects the chemicals in the products. Especially in the FACTORY or manufacturing setups, chemical testing plays a GREAT ROLE.

Regulatory authorities like the CPSIA, REACH, or ISO define the number of chemicals. If a chemical is beyond the LIMIT, it might be banned.

The purpose of chemical tests is to GUARANTEE the safety of products.

Do you want to know the DETAILS?

Let’s have a LONG discussion on this topic.

What are the Types of Chemical Testing?

What are the Types of Chemical Testing

Chemical testing sorts out DIFFERENT types of chemicals. For example, I sell clothing items. It may have the Lead components. Chemical tests define the EXACT quantity of lead compound.

There are five types of CHEMICAL testing. You can check them out.

Composition Analysis

Composition is what? An in-depth analysis of the RAW MATERIALS to the atomic levels, right?

Exact the same thing we apply here.

A composition analysis in the CHEMICAL TESTS shows:

  • What type of chemical is present in your T-shirts?
  • What amount of that chemical is present?

This way, you get an IDEA of the safe or toxic compound quantity.

Trace Contamination Detection

Let me explain it with an instance.

You have a FACTORY that produces leather. At first, leather does not contain any CHROMIUM element. When it goes through the production process, we EXPECT zero contamination.

Unfortunately, due to an ineffective environment, contamination occurs. And it is against the rules for selling in Europe.

Chemical tests can DETECT such substances.

It is called Trace contamination detection.

Foods or household products are often prone to CONTAMINATION. It is because of less defined measures.

Metal Testing

Chromium is a METAL. Lead is a Metal.

There are many examples of metals in the products.

Do you know what alloys are?

Alloys are MIXTURES of metals. For example, steel contains iron and nickel.

Some metals or alloys are very TOXIC. Chemical tests do metal tests to detect them.

  • They can tell us what type of metal is present
  • Tests can detect traces of the metals.
  • We get the exact quantity of these metals.
  • Materials Testing

A product is made of DIFFERENT RAW MATERIALS in the factory.

And the material testing process determines it. It highlights:

  • The quality of the MATERIAL
  • What raw materials are there?
  • How much is the DURABILITY of the raw materials?

That is where we reach a DECISION about the product’s overall durability.

Regulatory Testing

Whenever you launch a PRODUCT, it must meet the standards of regulatory authorities.

For example, CPSIA ensures products contain Phthalates compounds in less than 0.01%. Your products must not have more than ACCEPTABLE levels.

Characteristics of Chemical Testing

Characteristics of Chemical Testing

Chemical tests give an IDEA of the composition of the products. Whether they have the chemicals or not.

At this point, we can know the CHARACTERISTICS of products.

Here are some usual features of tests.

  • Qualitative Analysis

Quality analysis tells the QUALITY.

For example, you perform chemical tests on Clothing items. It shows the chemicals present in it.

When we only check the quality of chemicals, it is a qualitative analysis.

  • Quantitative Analysis

The quantitative analysis focuses on QUANTITY.

Here we detect the number of chemicals. And it often comes after the qualitative tests.

Let me give you an example. If your products contain lead, the next thing is to know the QUANTITY of lead.

Quantitative analysis tells that.

  • Strength of Metals

A chemical test can tell the strength of the metal.

Whenever we consider the LONG-LASTING features, it helps us out.

  • Contamination

Do the products have any contamination?

If yes, the Chemical test discloses it on the spot. Later, we remove the contamination and make the products pure.

Benefits of Choosing Chemical Testing

Benefits of Choosing Chemical Testing

Chemical tests are QUITE EFFECTIVE.

Many of my friends ask me the reason:

  • Why do I prefer chemical tests?
  • What is its significance?
  • Does it reduce any profits?

The answer is SIMPLE. It has many pros. These are:

Ensures your PRODUCTS are safe

My product safety is MY PRIORITY. I know it influences the customer’s behavior.

Whenever you order from a supplier, keep the DIFFERENT standards compliance in mind. Ensure your products are safe to use.

That is how you can BRING more customers to the brand. Your business graph will go up and up only.

Creates a reliable environment and brings more customer

Customers want the GUARANTEE of the products. And when your products are IDEAL, you can convince them.

That is how I let my BRAND growth go limitless. I created a TRUSTED environment and brought more customers. In turn, more sales occurred, leading to HIGHER revenues.

Drives more profits

The question is, we are investing in CHEMICAL testing. At the same point, how do we increase the profits?

It is the SIMPLE strategy. You create more demands for your products. And more markets bring an increase in prices.

I have followed this business model and made many bucks. It is a GREAT IDEA to increase profits.

What Standards and Requirements Do Manufacturers Need to Meet?

Standards and Requirements Do Manufacturers Need to Meet

ISO is an international standard for products. Similarly, some measures work for the LOCAL markets.

Some might work internationally.

I have listed the TOP 5 standards for manufacturers.

  • ASME

ASME refers to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. It has introduced 600 codes and STANDARDS.

The main areas of coverage are related to the mechanical engineering aspects.

For example, fasteners, plumbing fixtures, elevators, pipelines, power plant systems, etc.

You can use it in more than 100 countries.

My opinion!

If you manufacture in the above categories, it is for you.

  • ISO

I believe everyone knows ISO standards. A beginner manufacturer has to COMPLY with it.

ISO has introduced 22,595 standards in the different manufacturing aspects.

Look. They are not ESSENTIAL. But give a GOOD RECOGNITION to your brand.

  • REACH

REACH is a combination of the following WORDS.

  • Registration
  • Evaluation
  • Authorization
  • Restriction of chemicals

With due diligence, I have made a LIST of restricted chemicals.

  • Arsenic compounds
  • Asbestos fibers
  • AZO colorants in textiles
  • Cadmium
  • Chromium VI compounds
  • Lead and its compounds
  • Mercury compounds
  • Methanol
  • Nickel and its compounds released from metal products
  • Phthalates (plasticizers)
  • Polychlorinated terphenyls (PCTs)

When selling in the EUROPEAN market, ensure acceptable levels of these chemicals.

  • RoHS Compliance

Have you Heard of RoHS?

It is a RESTRICTION OF HARMFUL SUBSTANCES.

Maybe you already know what it is. It is a REGULATORY system in Europe. Like other standards, it includes some chemicals in its restricted lists.

These are:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Hexavalent chromium
  • Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB)
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)

I would like you to know:

It is ESPECIALLY applicable to electronic products. If you manufacture such products, note this standard.

  • CPSIA compliance

CPSIA applies to Children’s products. For example, if I sell Children’s toys, I have to avoid:

  • Toxic levels of Lead
  • No more than 0.01% of phthalates

It has an age requirement of 12 years. Always ensure your products meet the criteria defined in CPSIA.

FAQs about Chemical Test

1. What is the difference between ISO and ASTM material testing?

ASTM has a narrow range of criteria. Moreover, it operates at the national level in the US.
ISO operates at the international level. It has a broad aspect.

2. What is an example of chemical analysis?

Suppose you test a PAIR of socks. Qualitative analysis will highlight the chemical composition. And quantitative analysis will disclose the number of chemicals.

3. What are the three types of ISO?

There are many popular ISO standards. Three of them are the MOST popular.
These are:
· ISO 9001 (quality management)
· ISO 14001 (environmental management)
