What do you need before Shopify shipping setup

Shipping attributes play a huge role in getting more sales. The better you have a shipping set, the less confusion customers face. You must focus on four things to set up a custom shipping profile.

1. Store & Products

You must have a Shopify store with Physical Products. Digital products are easily accessible with a simple download button. In the case of Physical Products, you need to set up Shipping. Add your products and then Proceed to the next step.

2. Carrier account setup

Which shipping carrier do you want? DHL or USPS, or FedEx!

Set up their accounts for shipping. If you are Dropshipping, then no need to set up this whole process. I Ask my SUPPLIER what shipping carriers he uses. In the case of your products, set up your carrier accounts first. Integrate with your Store through the app directory. Create a shipping zone and Proceed. Add your price or weight-based shipping rates. Price-based shipping rates are directly connected with location differences.

3. Shipping Rates & Methods

How much do you want to charge for your Shipping?

Is it free shipping or a Paid one? Are you going with a weight-based or price-based shipping option or not?

Most sellers set up free shipping as it attracts customers the most. Some even charge extra for every shipping method. Prompt express shipping methods cost more, so adjust your rates accordingly.

4. Shipping Policy

Include your shipping conditions & what you are serving to customers.  Set up your terms regarding Shipping for your customers. Help them understand what they should expect during Shipping. Shipping policies are different for regions & shipping zones.

There are three processes in every shipping of an online store. You may face some spam fraud and abuse orders in your store. Better to go with a third-party shipping service to protect against spam fraud. Shipping service makes your process easy to stop fraud. Avoid new services, as every shipping service introduces good rates to old clients.

Let’s understand them.

  • Shipping setup

You first set up your carrier and shipping rates. Most people create flat shipping rates for products. However, some people focus on Free shipping rates as it attracts the most. Every product has different shipping methods depending on the region. Set them up for every single product separately.

  • Order Processing

In order, processing the customer selects the appropriate shipping method. They choose it depending on shipping time and rate. Shopify will notify you which method they have chosen. Then you proceed depending on that method.

  • Packaging & final Shipping

Now you have their shipping address and their chosen shipping method. Print your shipping label and Pack your product.  Ask your carrier to ship it to your customer. Get your tracking ID and update your Product sheet & shipping labels.

Pro tip: Add some cushioning and protective packaging material while shipping. Keep it Compact and lightweight to lower dimensional weight

How to set up shipping in Shopify?

Read this step-by-step guide to set your shipping price on every product. Dive into this deep process:

Step 1: Log into your Shopify store Dashboard and go to the settings. Navigate to the setting menu and select “Shipping & Delivery.”

Step 2: Go to the Shipping section and Click “Manage.” By default, you get a general Shipping tab. You edit it and add your recent details. You need to add many details; some of them are the following.

  • Origin: What would your address and origin be? From which point would you ship your products? It is simple to ask your supplier about their origin if you are doing Dropshipping. Also, you add your 3PL warehouse address. Add your home or workspace address if you do it all by yourself.
  • Shipping Zones: In this section, you create new shipping zones. CREATE your zone and name it by your choice. You have to add conditions and Pricing. This zone could be international or domestic. Customers won’t see it depending on your settings.

Step 3: Now back to the Main page of Shipping and deliveries. Under the zone section, there is a Custom rates section. These custom rates apply only to selected products. You offer discount calculated rates on your shipping rates on Shopify.

Step 4: Processing time is important as this tab is under the custom rates. Sellers usually have 3 to 5 business days as processing time. This time shows while checking out and is visible to the customers. Select your appropriate processing time. Dropshippers choose 3 to 5 days as processing time.

Step 5: A local delivery tab is also where they pick it up. Don’t make it visible if you are a big seller. The customization tab is also under there, and customers accept it.

Step 6: Setup your package sizes as they affect the shipping fee. Heavy and big packages have more handling fee than light ones. You design your packaging by yourself to lower its dimensional weight.

Step 7: Last and most important is your Carrier accounts. Integrate them into the shipping page, which sync all the data. You manage all shipping zones and rates with a few clicks.

After setting, select the relevant shipping policy while uploading the product.
