Our experts have ten years of experience and dealt with many such cases to assist our customers. Whenever you buy products from Aliexpress, the first question that comes to mind is, Is Aliexpress safe? Yes, Aliexpress is a secure platform for purchasing merchandise and getting affordable prices.

Let’s have a deep dive into the Aliexpress taxes.

aliexpress taxes

Do I have to pay customs and import taxes?

I’ve ordered thousands of times from Aliexpress before. Based on my experience, sometimes, you need to pay customs duties for the products.

The product price includes only product cost, not the customs duties charges. Especially for overseas sellers, you need to pay customs duty on some of your orders. The duty might include Aliexpress import taxes and customs clearance fees.

AliExpress Import Tax in different countries

Before understanding the Aliexpress import tax for multiple countries, it is better to understand the type of taxes you have. Here these are:

  • Sales tax
  • Goods and services tax
  • Import duties
  • Customs costs
  • Postal Service tax

Most countries have other taxes, such as the US having a VAT. So, you need to follow the local law, get trade facilitation, and pay import fees.

Here is the list of countries with different services tax and import duties.

US

In the US, everything works fine if you order the products at the price of $800. If the order exceeds the $800 per day quota limit, they might charge you 25% of the Aliexpress import tax. On imported goods, you can fill up the customs declaration online and get your invoice to pay the customs charges.

UK

You can directly pay import tax on the products in the UK through VAT. You need to pay the 20% of import duty of your total product price on the product purchase page, and a Chinese platform, such as Aliexpress, will directly send this amount to the UK tax authority. It is essential when the order price is below 135 pounds. For orders above £135, you have to pay VAT and import tax. UK customers have to pay additional taxes imposed by the UK government.

EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES

European Union countries such as Belgium, France, Ireland, Netherlands, etc., have tax policies when the product arrives at the destination country.

According to new rules, you need to pay customs duties on product prices below €150. Usually, the price ranges from 17-to 25 percent of products. For example, Holland charges 21% while France charges 20%. So, the local customs authority imposes the trade regulations on international trade.

CANADA

Canada does not charge the customs duty if your product price is below CAN $20. Overall, you have to pay up to 13% of your product costs as the GST for the imported inventory.

AUSTRALIA

Australia charges a 10% GST on the product imports from foreign countries. It applies to all the product purchased under 1000 AUD for different categories. All responsibility counts on the buyers. So, you need to submit the fees for clearance.

How Can You Avoid Taxes on Aliexpress?

How Can You Avoid Taxes on Aliexpress?

Do you want to avoid the Aliexpress import charges? Great!

We’ve found numerous ways to do that. Follow the tactics me and my team listed below to reduce the customs duties charged on your orders.

1. Keep an eye on customs Value

There is the threshold of price upon which duties and taxes apply. For example, in the US, the threshold value is $800. You can purchase orders below $800 and import them without duties and taxes added by the customs office.

2. Split the orders

If the order price exceeds the threshold limits, why not reduce it? You can split the orders and prevent customs fees.

3. Buy from a local warehouse

Customs fees are only possible if you order from foreign countries. Local customs authorities apply the trade regulations issued for the product. To avoid the customs fee, you can choose the local Aliexpress and import the products.

4. Purchase tax-free products

Tax-free products are those upon which no tax price applies. You can choose those items to avoid the tax imposed.

AliExpress and Customs: How Do They Work?

Aliexpress sends the products through your country’s postal system or private couriers. Whatever the method is, you need to undergo customs clearance and pay the shipping fees with the taxes such as VAT.

So, there are two ways of paying tax on all your purchases on international borders. Here are these.

  • Local Postal Services

In local postal services, you can get the identification number to add to the National postal service website and check the status of your delivery. Once you clear customs charges, you can receive the product from the local post office.

  • Private Courier Services

Private couriers directly contact customs agencies and pay the provincial sales tax, goods, and services tax. Once you track the status of your product, you can get an idea of where it is in the destination country.

What to Do If the Package Is Blocked by Customs?

What to Do If the Package Is Blocked by Customs?

Sometimes, the package is blocked by the customs clearance team. Due to various reasons, such products violating IP rights are prohibited prescription drugs or include something that doesn’t follow the country’s trade enforcement act.

This has happened to me twice already. But don’t worry, I’ll teach you how to work around this problem.

If your package is blocked by customs, submit the accurate details of your merchandise. Ask the seller to help in this regard, and follow the general guidelines given:

  • Call the local customs team.
  • Check there is no high goods and services tax.
  • Pay the sales tax.
  • Get the tracking number from your supplier.
  • Submit additional information if required.

The problem will be resolved in the meantime. But, you need to ensure all the added information is correct about the product; otherwise, you might lose the product to international agreements. Your submission might include the declared price, purchase price, product ID, and title.

Not every time the product price includes the VAT. In actuality, it depends on which country you are importing the products. If you live in the US, VAT might apply to your trades; otherwise, you are exempt from it.
