How To Find Products To Sell on Amazon? Make Crazy Profits

Still struggling how to find products to sell on Amazon? Don’t worry, that ends today.

I’m an eCommerce business owner with 10 years of industry experience. I’ve been selling on Amazon and tons of other eCommerce platforms. I’ll give you my blueprint on how I find products to sell on Amazon. So you can make tens of thousands of dollars in profits EVERY MONTH.

In this guide, we’ll cover the characteristics of a good product to sell on Amazon. A step-by-step guide to finding these products on Amazon. And tips on finding the RIGHT ones to sell.

It’s going to be fun, let’s go…

How To Find Products To Sell on Amazon

Characteristics of Good Product on Amazon

Characteristics of Good Product on Amazon

If you are here, then there’s no doubt that you are TOTALLY sold out on selling on Amazon.

I was too, many, many years ago. And I’ve built a very successful FBA biz with top-selling items.

I’ll show you the exact blueprint I use to find top-selling products in the next sections. But first, let’s dive into how to spot a KILLER product (for guaranteed profitable sales) :

This is a good starting point.

I hear most “Fake” e-commerce gurus preaching about identifying seasonal trends. DO NOT join them.

Characteristics of Good Product on Amazon

The key is to sell products with sufficient demand throughout the year. That way, when everybody else is camping on Google Trends or Telegram groups. To identify their next product, you’ll still be balling because of that product you stocked 6/8 months ago.

This is a bit controversial. But stocking low-priced products attracts a wide range of budget-conscious customers.

Also, stocking such products (that retail for $10 – $40) reduces affiliated costs. Such as Amazon fees and shipping costs, just to mention a few. This leads to increased sales volume for your online store.

The secret here is to reduce shipping costs and other import charges.  If you are selling to foreign customers.

Here’s another one that sets you up for success in the eCommerce business.

People will always need to buy items like pet supplies, beauty products, and food items. Hence, stocking items in these product categories guarantees sales!

Other recurring products include antivirus software, baby formula, diapers, laundry detergents, etc.

Determine the Business Idea of Sourcing Products

Now, let’s get down to specifics. I’ll show you the BEST six business ideas for sourcing products just to get your feet at the door.

Dropshipping

There’s NEVER been a better time to enter into dropshipping than NOW. Think about it, dropshipping millionaires are developing right before our eyes.

Don’t believe me? Check this out:

Dropshipping

(Source: Google Trends)

The best part about dropshipping?

You don’t have to stock inventory in your warehouse or store. Just list items on your Amazon Seller Account. And source from third-party sellers.

Once you receive an order, the supplier ships the products DIRECTLY to your customer.

SIMPLE!

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • ALL receipts sent to the customer should portray you as the seller. NOT the dropshipping supplier
  • You MUST handle all the returns or customer disputes
  • Ensure you remove any labels/stickers with the supplier’s brand before delivery

Did you know? The global dropshipping market is set to hit $1.6T by 2031. It’s literally a gold mine, hands down!

I recommend dropshipping for:

  1. Cash-strapped sellers who can’t buy goods in bulk and don’t have a warehouse
  2. Sellers who don’t want to keep inventory by themselves

Retail Arbitrage

Retail Arbitrage

In simpler terms…

Real arbitrage is just reselling. You take advantage of product prices between two markets and make your profits.

For example, finding a low-competition product selling at $10 at Walmart. And selling it for $30 or $40 on Amazon. 20$ profit!!! Now, imagine doing it on a much larger scale. The profit margins will shock you.

I used to do real arbitrage back in the day. Here’s my honest opinion about it:

  • You start with as little as you want. In short, start with what you are comfortable with and scale up CONSISTENTLY.
  • EASIER to identify products to sell. I didn’t have to conduct keyword research or spend hours on brainstorming product ideas.
  • No launching of new products. This means I didn’t have to spend on marketing and advertising.

What I didn’t expect:

  • High-demand products with great price points are NOT guaranteed. This week, you’ll find profitable products at extremely low prices. Next week the store you bought them increases their prices.
  • REAL competitive. I would find 10 – 20 other sellers listing at the same price.

I recommend real arbitrage for:

  1. Sellers who don’t want to dive into one particular niche
  2. If you are just testing the waters and want to see how Amazon selling works

Print-on-Demand Services

I haven’t really tried Print-on-Demand before. But my designer friend makes six figures off this. And I’ve been reading a lot about it, too!

To get started, you need a professional seller account. Then, you’ll apply to join Amazon’s Merch on Demand.

Once you are in, start uploading your designs to the Merch on Demand dashboard.

Print-on-Demand Services

Don’t limit your creativity to design only T-shirts and hoodies. Try out tank tops, tote bags, pop sockets, smartphone cases, and MUCH MORE.

Profits are computed by subtracting Amazon’s costs from the item’s selling price.

My buddy makes $1.93 for a T-shirt that costs $15.99. And $9.32 for a $25.99 T-shirt. Since he sells in bulk, his monthly sales are ALWAYS crazy!

I recommend print-on-demand services for:

  1. Designs and artists with some cool art designs
  2. If you want to bring your custom-printed designs to life

Direct Sourcing

Direct Sourcing

This is my BEST so far. It can consume time, money, and sanity (just joking!). But it’s very REWARDING.

Here, you find products DIRECTLY from the manufacturer. And you choose either of these two options:

  • Purchase direct source products. This is what the manufacturer already has in their factory. You’ll enjoy low-price per unit than wholesale prices in the market
  • Order custom units that are unique for your brand

Here’s the tricky bit…

You’ll have to handle ALL warehousing, sorting, packaging, and shipping ALONE. Alternatively, you can let FBA handle EVERYTHING. (It’s not that cheap either).

Also, you need to invest in inventory management software. That integrates with your seller account. That helps you keep track of your inventory. And gives TIMELY alerts on shortages.

Leeline Sourcing helps you find the BEST Chinese manufacturers/suppliers. With AFFORDABLE rates and TIMELY shipping times.

I recommend direct sourcing for top sellers who want to start their own unique brand.

Leeline Sourcing helps you find factories, get competitive prices, follow up production, ensure quality and deliver products to the door.

Wholesaling

Wholesaling

This is also a good one. I’ve been working with wholesalers all my life. And it’s pretty simple.

Just do your research to find the best wholesale suppliers. Buy products to sell in bulk. List them on your Amazon store. Advertise and wait for sales. EASY PEASY!

I’ve been taking advantage of the lower price per unit by purchasing in bulk. And NEVER looked back. It’s better than retail arbitrage BY FAR. (Only if you have lots of money to invest, though!)

Also, you get to decide whether you handle the warehousing, packaging, and shipping. Or let FBA handle ALL that on your behalf. Just like direct sourcing.

Here are some of my favorite places to find wholesale suppliers:

  • Visit trade shows
  • Source from wholesale directories, including Wholesale Central, Worldwide brands, etc
  • Join Facebook groups such as Amazon FBA Sellers and Helium 10 Members

Wholesaling can be EXTREMELY profitable. But only if you do your market research. Find profitable niches. And set the RIGHT prices.

I use Amazon’s Automate Pricing and Revenue Calculator to keep track of product prices. Minimize spending. These tools will also show your profit margins from wholesaling.

I recommend Wholesaling for those who want to sell in multiple product categories. But not necessarily manufacture the products themselves.

Private Labeling or White Labeling

Private Labeling or White Labeling

Selling private label products is also PROFITABLE. Here, you find a supplier or manufacturer. Order products. But each product should be labeled or tagged under your brand name.

What product categories can I sell my private label categories?

I’d say dive into ANY product category and see what works.

My favorite picks are beauty products, pet supplies, kitchen tools, and foodstuff. People are always looking to try out new things. Hence, there’s ALWAYS a market for your products.

How to get private-label vendors?

Ask your manufacturer if they offer private label options. Or do a quick search to find private-label vendors in your location.

I recommend private labeling for established sellers who want to build their brand. Also, if you are cash-strapped and want to start your unique brand, this is your opportunity.

How To Find Products To Sell on Amazon

Finding what to sell online can be very HARD. You are competing with thousands of Amazon sellers worldwide. And you’ll need to be spot on to find that product that will change your life FOREVER.

So, for your next top-selling items. Use my proven strategies to get your next BEST SELLER:

Conduct Manual Research

The only reason I like manual research is that it gives you detailed product information. That is not easily accessible through using automation tools.

Don’t get me wrong, tools are GREAT. But they might miss information that might hinder your decision-making process.

Here’s a quick run-down on how to find your next best-selling products on Amazon…

1. Fire up Amazon and go to the best-selling items.

Amazon really eases your work. You have a best-selling section for each category. For example: “Bestsellers in Kitchen & Dining” or “Best sellers in Computers & Accessories.”

How To Find Products To Sell on Amazon

Say we click on the iPad, and you’ll be directed to a new tab. Here, you’ll read more about the product. What customers think, see its reviews, and check its price.

2. Scroll down to see which items are “Frequently Bought” with your chosen items.

Using our iPad example, we can see customers buy it together with a screen protector or case.

How To Find Products To Sell on Amazon

3. You can repeat this Best Seller approach in other categories. And make a list of items that you are interested in selling.

4. Finally, use Google Keyword Planner to check each product’s search volume. Ideally, the HIGHER the search volume, the HIGHER the demand.

Evaluate Top Selling Items on Amazon.com

In the previous section, I’ve shown you how to find best-selling items on Amazon. For each category.

Here, we’ll identify whether you should list the items in your Amazon store.

There’s no better way to do this than to use the Xray Chrome Extension. Visit the Google Chrome Web store, download it, and follow these steps to get started:

1. On your Amazon product page, active Xray’s Chrome extension

Xray

2. Xray then gives you loads of information about the product you want to sell. These include supposed monthly sales, Best Seller Rank (BSR), average price, etc.

Even better? Xray gives you an option to view top-performing sellers. So, you can analyze their product’s sales history, BSR, and more.

EXPERT TIP. Just play around with the filters to find the desired data. Then, use the download icon. And get your spreadsheet loaded with ALL relevant product information.

Make Use of a Product Research Tool

I know I just said some might not give detailed information. But you’ll save hours and hours of painstaking research.

My favorite tools to use are:

  • Jungle Scout
  • Helium 10

You can NEVER go wrong with Jungle Scout. I’m a BIG FAN of Jungle Scout. I use it weekly! And it has played a KEY ROLE in my Amazon FBA success.

Jungle Scout helps me to find winning products with HIGH DEMAND in just a few clicks. I don’t have to keep guessing which product will blow.

What sells me out on Jungle Scout is their Product Database. This BEAST has a 475 million product catalog pulled from Amazon’s website.

The best part?

You get search filters that let you tune your results to show high demand. Or low-competition products.

Make Use of a Product Research Tool

Also, you get cool features such as product ranking, a profit calculator, and much more.

Here’s my detailed JungleScout review on why you need to start using Jungle Scout.

Helium 10 basically does what JungleScout does, just 10X BETTER!

Helium 10

See, if you just want to find profitable products, JungleScout is fine. But if you want to build a super profitable Amazon Store, Helium 10 is your savior.

You get 99.9% detailed product research, store management, and listing optimization. You also get lead capturing, PPC campaign management, SEO, and fraud protection.

As the best China sourcing agent, we help you find factories, get competitive prices, follow up production, ensure quality and deliver products to the door.

Spot a Gap in the Market

While you find a gap by leveraging JungleScout and Helium 10. You do it manually and save money. Don’t say I didn’t tell you…though it is time-consuming ASF!

For example, if we search for “Home Workout Equipment,”. We get over 10,000 search results. See:

Spot a Gap in the Market

If we get specific, say we search for “Home Portable Treadmill”. We get only 504 search results.

Spot a Gap in the Market

This is a good place to start. But you’ll need to be more specific to actually find that gap you are looking for. Yes, there are many treadmill sellers. So, it is your work to find what’s actually missing in that space. Maybe it’s the quality, size, speed, etc.

Do competitor analysis by reading other sellers’s customer reviews. To get insight into what their customers are saying. And make improvements that they need.

Once you find a unique want, incorporate it into your product. And watch how you’ll attract thousands of buyers like a vacuum cleaner on steroids.

Find New Product Ideas by Attending Webinars and Special Events

Find New Product Ideas by Attending Webinars and Special Events

I’ve been attending events for the past 7 years (I’m an Introvert, I can explain😁).

My first was the 2018 ASD Market Week. I got to network with Top-tier Amazon sellers. And made relationships that have accelerated my growth.

You meet experienced traders who’ve made strides in the industry. Pick their brains a lil bit, just don’t be too cocky! Just keep it light and be polite at all times.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions on product ideas and most profitable niches. You see how everyone is willing to give out valuable information for FREE.

Webinars are also a GREAT way to get insights on in-demand products.

TIP. If you are attending a webinar, make sure to download product documentation. Or presentation slides. This helps you understand more about the product after the webinar.

The information you’ll get from attending events and webinars is PRICELESS. Plus, you get “real” advice from someone who’s where you want to be. And not just some kid on the internet looking for views for his YouTube channel.

Find inspiration from other eCommerce websites such as Etsy

I’m a researcher by blood. And I spend most of my days picking up trends from other sites. Before Amazon sellers pick them up.

Just like Amazon, you delve into the best-selling sections on Etsy. You find tons of new product ideas that no one’s selling on Bezos’ platform.

Find inspiration from other eCommerce websites such as Etsy

Pinterest is also a great place to find product ideas for your Amazon store.

Take advantage of Helium’s 10 Demand Analyzer Chrome Extension. To learn more about the product’s demand.

Again, don’t fully rely on the results you get from Pinterest or Etsy. I’ll recommend you go ahead and do even more research on Amazon. Check for the nitty gritties such as sales rank, customer reviews, and sales trends.

Trust me, you’ll be in a better position to determine whether the product is a hit or miss.

Points to Evaluate Potential Amazon Products

Before picking your next product:

Identify your Target Market

Identify your Target Market

Who are your ideal customers? Is it homeowners, business owners, women, men, etc? How will you get to them? Is it through Amazon or other social media platforms?

This is key to the success of your Amazon business.

Here’s why identifying your target audience is the No.1 recipe to success:

  • Helps you establish a brand that reflects your ideal customers’ interests and values
  • Develop creative strategies that speak DIRECTLY to the customers
  • Easy to establish customer relationships

It is one element that differentiates HIGHEST-earning Amazon sellers from mediocre ones. Use it to your advantage.

Level of Competition

Business, especially eCommerce, is all about evaluating competition.

If there are hundreds of thousands of sellers selling the same product. Chances are that you won’t break into that niche, especially if you are a newbie!

Instead, go where the competition is low. You compete with fewer sellers. Also, it will be EXTREMELY easier to gain a huge market share if your product is unique. Top-notch quality. And affordable.

Cost of the Product

Cost of the Product

How much does it cost to manufacture the product? Or, how much will it cost to buy from a wholesale supplier?

If you are just starting out, keep your spending as low as possible. If you spend ALL your money on slow-moving stocks. YOU ARE!

Have a budget and stick to it. If the supplier doesn’t match your budget, look for another one! There’s always plenty of fish in the ocean:)

Product Shipping

Shipping is yet another critical issue most newbie sellers tend to miss.

As a seller, evaluate the ease of shipping your items. Are they fragile, perishable, etc?

Then, determine the best way to ship the items. And make a budget for it. If you can’t handle everything alone, you can incorporate FBA’s support.

For dropshipping, ensure you comply with Amazon’s guidelines.

Sale Price

No seller wants to operate at a loss. NO ONE.

But most do without even realizing it. That’s because they fail to calculate the ACCURATE profit margins.

You should value your items in that, even if Amazon deducts all fees. You’re still left with enough to restock and save for that trip you promised yourself. (Or any other investment you’d want to start on the side).

What are the Best Strategies to Find Products to Sell on Amazon?

I’ve been using these strategies to stay ahead of my competition. And generate thousands of dollars for my eCommerce business.

Never Sell on Categories Ruled Over By Major Brands

Never Sell on Categories Ruled Over By Major Brands

Thinking of selling Adidas, Nike, iPhones, or Samsung?

YEAH…NO!

Basically, any big brand you can think of. DO NOT SELL THERE.

Here’s why…

  • They have a 100X better reputation than you
  • They invest millions of dollars in advertising
  • You can’t match their manufacturing capacity. EVER

And this is not even an exhaustive list.

I don’t know how else to say this, honestly. Just find a product where you don’t have to worry about the big dawgs taking the entire cake.

Instead, go where you are likely to become the king. And rule over that entire niche. The best way is to niche down. Maybe by jumping into the accessories market for mobile phones. For example, selling customized phone cases or privacy screen protectors. Sweet, right?

Read and Understand Amazon’s Customer Reviews

Read and Understand Amazon’s Customer Reviews

Ever heard the phrase:? “The customer is always right.”

There’s no reason to stock an item that is constantly getting BAD reviews. Even if there’s hype around it.

I recommend checking for products with thousands of reviews. Contrary to the ones with just 10, 20, or 30 reviews.

Reading thousands of reviews will give you an understanding of buyer pain points. And helps you make the RIGHT decision.

Don’t get me wrong, there are still top-selling products with little to no reviews. Just check thoroughly to ensure they aren’t fake or not-generated.

Understand your Operating Costs

This brings me back to the point I said earlier. Most sellers operate at losses without even knowing it.

Don’t get too excited with sales to the point of failing to accurately calculate your profit margins.

As a veteran seller, I’ve learned this the HARD WAY. Amazon fees can mess you up if you don’t do your homework. These include:

  • Referral fees
  • Closing fees (media-related products)
  • Seller account fee
  • Product costs (from manufacturers and suppliers)
  • Storage and packaging fees (if you don’t use FBA)
  • Amazon Fulfillment and Shipping fees
  • Miscellaneous fees, such as High-Volume listing fees

NOTE. If a customer returns your items. You pay for refund administration fees.

These fees are subject to change. Please confirm with Amazon to get a list of all fees in your country.

If you still have decent money left after paying for everything, GOOD! If not, find a new product idea.

Understand the size of your products (e.g., Weight and Dimensions)

Understand the size of your products

Before I even dive into this. Please understand that there’s nothing wrong with large products.

It’s just that they tend to have high shipping and storage costs. Which can drain you financially if you aren’t prepared.

That said, you should consider lightweight items if you are just starting out. And don’t have a HUGE budget. Ideally, stock products that are below 18” X 14” X 8”.

I started with beauty products and clothing items. My shipping and storage costs were pretty low. I could afford them without breaking a sweat!

Choose Products that Cross-Sell Perfectly (Watch your profits skyrocket!)

As I close a decade of selling on Amazon and other platforms. I’ve learned that successful e-commerce owners NEVER chase trends. Instead, they focus on the next wave.

You can apply this to your business, too. For instance, if you are selling body lotions and they are currently in demand. What’s next? Maybe you can venture into selling skincare products (e.g., moisturizers or cleansers).

But…

If you sell a product with no potential to scale, e.g., plain white socks. You are FINISHED!
